Surfboards for Beginners

At Big Blue Surf School we offer the beginner a wide a range of ‘soft foam’ surfboards, especially designed for novice surfers. These boards are buoyant, stable and easy to catch waves on. They are designed to enable you to stand easily and to quickly master basic surfboard control. Since they are of a soft foam construction, these surfboards are also the safest possible boards for you and your fellow students to learn on. Our softboard range incorporates 6, 7, 8 and 9 foot boards, enabling us to find the ideal vehicle on which you can progress quickly and safely.

Surfboards for Intermediate and Advanced Surfers

We have a range of custom made Thruster and Funboard style Mini-Mals which are available for use by intermediate to advanced surfers. Whether you have taken the quick route and progressed to an intermediate level through lessons with Big Blue or are an experienced surfer who needs to borrow equipment, we are more than happy to offer you the use of a suitable board from this range. However, we are not in the business of flattering egos. For your safety and that of those around you, we will only offer the use of a ‘hard board’ when we feel confident a student has sufficient expertise to use it safely.

As an additional service, we are happy to offer advice on surfboard design, the type of board we think would be most suitable for you & discounts from local suppliers.

Wetsuits and other Accessories

Our high quality, full length, blind stitched steamer style wetsuits are supplied by the UK’s leading wetsuit manufacturer Gul. They are of a higher quality than the suits used by most surf schools, and are designed to keep you warm and comfortable whatever the weather. We also offer our customers the use of wetsuit boots and hats to ensure warmth even on the cooler days.

We also provide our customers with Discounts vouchers for the areas top surf shops ‘Nuff Said’ and Gul (Bude) where you can get discounts on a range of boards, suits, and accessories as well as clothing and equipment from our sponsors Gul, Bloc Sunglasses and ‘Nuff Said.
